The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

Those of us who love both books and films are in for a treat with this. One of the five nominations for the 2012 Academy Awards in the category of Best Animated Short is "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore". Created by Moonbot Studios, this film is set in New Orleans as a storm begins brewing and Mr. Morris Lessmore sits on his balcony writing a book. Both websites have a link to download the film from iTunes, and there is also an app available for the iPad and iPhone to further enhance the storytelling experience. I think the Morris Lessmore website describes the film perfectly as, "a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor". Enjoy!

Group Study Rooms Reservation

Need to reserve a group study room? Lane Library has simplified the process with a new online calendar system that lets you see the times and dates that are available for each room. The link "Reserve a Study Room" is located under "Find Information and Services" on the library homepage. Just below that link is a handy how-to video to help you get started.

Some great features with the new reservation system include the ability to find out how many people each group study room can accommodate as well as a map section indicating the location of the room in the library. All six of Lane Library's group study rooms are available for reservations, please see our policies and procedures for more information.

Savannah Book Festival

The 5th Annual Savannah Book Festival is this weekend, February 15-19, and it is promising to be the best yet. This year's theme is "Lose Yourself in Books!", and with authors including Pat Conroy, Stewart O'Nan, Brad Thor and Walter Isaacson it will be easy to do just that. Of course the big news this year is closing ceremony speaker Stephen King, whose event is ticketed and sold out in just 2 hours.

Saturday, February 18th is the main day of the festival and most events are free to the public. Six venues around Telfair Square in downtown Savannah will host 40 authors in various genres such as history, poetry, fiction, and memoir. Saturday's events will also be televised on C-SPAN/Book TV. If you missed out on tickets to the Stephen King event, you can still enjoy the ice cream flavor created at Leopold's in his honor - "King's Ice Scream". There are plenty of fine authors discussing their work and signing books at this splendid event so be sure to carve out a bit of time this weekend to enjoy the Savannah Book Festival.
